The Infectious Disease Association of California (IDAC) recognizes the superior training of infectious disease physicians in the area of HIV/AIDS medicine.

IDAC worked with the California Department of Managed Care to develop the definition of an HIV/AIDS Specialist. To ease the transition of this program, IDAC offered a Certificate of Recognition as a Specialist in HIV/AIDS Medicine for those physicians meeting this criteria (2003-2009).

This certificate program ended 12/31/09.
