National "Clinician Of The Year" Three of Last Four Years

Dr. Gonzalo Ballon-Landa of San Diego, CA was the third Southern California physician in the last four years to be honored with the Clinician Award by the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA). The award was presented at the national organization¹s annual meeting, held this week in Philadelphia, PA.

The Clinician Award honors excellence in patient care and is presented to IDSA fellows or members who are renowned for clinical care, patient education, compassion, patient advocacy, clinical research and community service.

"Throughout his career, Dr. Ballon-Landa has demonstrated his commitment to serving the needs of the community," says IDSA President John G. Bartlett, MD. Dr. Ballon-Landa was one of the first physicians in the private practice of infectious diseases in San Diego. He currently practices at Scripps Mercy, Sharp Grossmont and Alvardo Hospitals.

Two other member of the Southern California chapter‹the Infectious Disease Association of California (IDAC)‹have won this award. In 1996, Dr. Ellie J.C. Goldstein of Santa Monica, CA received this honor, as well as Dr. Ramon Moncada of Coronado, CA in 1998.

"Winning this prestigious award three of the last four years demonstrates the regard which Southern California infectious disease physicians are held by their national colleagues," says IDAC President Chris Bailey of Laguna Niguel, CA.
